Mount Amiata, Fauna Park and historical - artistic places of interest
 Mount
Amiata is situated in Val D’Orcia, one of the most suggestive
places of the classical Tuscany, between the Maremma and Chianti,
confining with Umbria and upper Lazian Tuscia.
The peak arrives up to 1.738m and on it stands a monumental iron Cross,
22 meters high, done by the sienese craftsman Zalaffi: the panorama
which can be observed from the peak stretches from the basins of the
Bolsena Lake and the Trasimeno Lake, to the Metallifere and Chianti
hills to the hills of Umbria and Sabina.
There are 3 ski lifts, Prato delle Macinaie (altitude 1385m), Prato
della Contessa (altitude 1410m), the latter situated between the peak
of Mount Amiata and the second peak Poggio della Montagnola, and
Rifugio Cantore (altitude 1428m).
Also located in Amiata is the Parco Faunistico del Monte Amiata (Monte
Amiata Wildlife Park), a mountainous area of particular prestige both
naturalistic and panoramic. The area surrounding Mount Amiata is in
addition rich in thermal springs such as those in Bagni di San Filippo,
with water gushing in abundance at a temperature of 52°C; at
Bagnore, with the Acquaforte spring, having specific therapeutic
efficacy.
The interesting villages of Abbadia San Salvatore, Arcidosso,
Castell’Azzara, Castel del Piano, Castiglion d’Orcia,
Piancastagniaio, Radicofani, Roccalbegna, Semproniano, Santa Fiora and
Seggiano can also be visited for their historical and artistic value.
